Spring in the Berkshires is a time of reawakening. Migratory birds soar overhead. Daffodils dance in the breeze. And the flowering trees and bushes bud up signaling that warmer weather is indeed here to stay. The gray pall of winter recedes to be replaced by green, green grass and a riot of color. But for a destination known for its abundant cultural activities in summer, what is there to do in the Berkshires in spring? Where do we begin?
Take a Walk on the Wild Side
First of all, spring is a lovely time to visit our romantic country estate located in the heart of the Berkshires. From our location, you have access to any number of gorgeous hiking trails. Strut your stuff along a portion of the Appalachian trail, or set out to find a waterfall gushing with snowmelt. The twin falls at Bash Bish, the highest single-drop waterfall in the state, tempts any number of visitors seeking a gentle hike in the woods for ample reward.
Seek Inspiration in a Botanical Garden
Opening day for the Berkshire Botanical Garden is just around the corner. Stock up on annuals, perennials, and vegetables for your own garden at their annual plant sale, scheduled this year for May 6 & 7. If you missed their bulb show in March, where they showcase dozens of New England’s spring bulbs, now is the time to get a jump on sprucing up your border or rock gardens. Spend some time wandering the 24-acre grounds along footpaths that will guide you through herb gardens, rose gardens, cottage gardens, and more. It’s a wonderful opportunity to find inspiration to bring home with you.
Find Your Muse
Guests with a penchant for history marvel at the wealth of historic sites that call the Berkshires home. Ramble the walkways of Hancock Shaker Village for a glimpse into the vision of utopian worshippers seeking religious freedom. Their simple ways are showcased at this living history museum in Pittsfield. Norman Rockwell’s ubiquitous illustrations feature prominently at his eponymous museum in Stockbridge. Capturing iconic images of everyday life in small-town America, Rockwell built his career in the Berkshires and left the region with this gorgeous gallery.
Main Street Shopping Mecca
One of the greatest pleasures of visiting a new destination is discovering the main street shops and boutiques. And here in the Berkshires shopping is one of our guests’ favorite pastimes. From premium outlets to “mom and pop” shops featuring art, antiques, rare books, and more, you’ll be hard-pressed to leave without a trinket or two in your trunk. So, pick up your guide to shopping in the Berkshires and shop ’til you drop.
Dine Around Town
After a day filled with hiking, shopping, and museum hopping, no doubt you’ll have worked up an appetite. Never fear. Eat to live or live to eat, the Berkshires restaurant scene is world-class. French, Italian, Mexican, Indian, you name it, we’ve got a recommendation. Maybe you’re in the mood for pub grub or something more old-world. Farm-to-table, an intimate café for a latte, or a quiet spot to enjoy authentic Mediterranean fare thrive side-by-side in the towns and villages that surround our Inn.
Relax, Refresh, Renew
Maybe you don’t need to do anything to enjoy a Berkshires getaway in spring. Our comfy, elegant country retreat welcomes you to simply sit back and relax. Enjoy a complimentary cordial in front of the fire pit. Stretch out in the library with a good book. Or indulge in a massage. You’re on vacation. There’s no time-clock to punch.
